Sports of the World Games

There are official and invitational sports that can be included on the sports program for the World Games.

The sports program for 2022 comprised 30 official sports (including 54 disciplines, 207 events), and five invitational sports. Since 2022, invitational sports are no longer presented separately, but are also part of the official program. See our list of the number of sports for each event and the changes over time.

For 2025, three sports which have been in all previous editions have been dropped: bowling, water-skiing (though wakeboarding remains), and artistic roller skating. Sumo has also been dropped. Sports making their official debut are powerboating and cheerleading, and Sambo returns. There will be a showcase (demonstration) of E-Sports, but it is not part of the official program.

Major Events Extra

The largest sporting event in the world is the Olympic Games, but there are many other multi-sport games. In terms of single sport events, nothing beats the FIFA World Cup. To see what's coming up, check out the calendar of major sporting events.
