The Best FIFA Football Awards 2023
The Best FIFA Football Awards for 2023 was an international football award ceremony conducted by the sport's governing body FIFA. Here are the awards presented in January 2024 for the 2023 year. The men's and women's World 11 was also announced.
- Best Player Award (men): The 2023 winner of the FIFA best male player award was Lionel Messi. He was also the winner of the 2023 Ballon d'Or. Messi and Erling Haaland both scored 48 points, requiring a tiebreaker to decide the winner. Messi was the winner based on receiving more points from national captains.
- Best Player Award (women): The 2023 winner of the FIFA female best player award was Spain's Aitana Bonmati. She was also the winner of the 2023 Ballon d'Or.
- FIFA Coaches of the Year Award: The men's award went to Pep Guardiola, the coach of Manchester City. Under his leadership, the team achieved a historic treble, including their first Champions League. The women's coach of the year award went to England's coach Sarina Wiegman (as in 2022).
- Men's and Women's Goalkeeper of the Year: Ederson, from Manchester City and Brazil, was awarded the Best Men's Goalkeeper. Mary Earps, representing Manchester United and England, won the Best Women's Goalkeeper award (as she did in 2022).
- FIFA Puskas Award: Awarded for the goal of the year, went to Guilherme Madruga from Botafogo-SP for a stunning bicycle kick from long range.
- Fair Play Award: This award recognizes behavior that promotes the spirit of fair play and compassion. The winner in 2023 was the Brazil men's national team for their stand against racism.
Although not part of the FIFA Best Awards, there are two FIFA awards given annually to national teams based on international rankings.
- Team of the Year: Awarded each year to the first ranked team in the December-edition of the FIFA World Ranking. The winner in 2023 was Argentina.
- Mover of the Year: Awarded to the team who made the best progress up the rankings over the course of the year. The winner in 2023 was Panama.
