The ImPACT (Immediate Post-concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) test is a computerized concussion evaluation tool for sports medicine personnel.
equipment required: ImPACT computer software
procedure: The test requires all the sports participants to undertake the test at the beginning of the season before any injuries happen, to establish a baseline performance on the test. The test takes about 25 minutes to complete, and includes measures of verbal and visual memory, processing speed, and reaction time. When a suspected concussion event occurs, the test is given again which can be compared to the baseline test.
comments: ImPACT recommends that it be administered by an ImPACT trained athletic trainer, school nurse, athletic director, team doctor or psychologist.
