The 2021 Copa América was held in Brazil after originally being scheduled to be held in 2020 in Argentina and Colombia. It was the 47th edition of the tournament. The previous Copa América in 2019 was also held in Brazil.
The 2020 tournament was postponed to 2021 due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic. It also meant that no guest nations were invited, the first time since 1991.
Argentina and Colombia were scheduled to host the Copa America in 2021 (postponed from 2020), however, the hosting rights were taken away and awarded to Brazil just two weeks before the start of the tournament. It would have been the first time two countries had shared the hosting rights.
The tournament featured ten South American national teams: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Brazil were the defending champions.
The tournament concluded with Argentina defeating Brazil 1-0 in the final, held at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Ángel Di María scored the decisive goal, giving Argentina their first Copa América title since 1993 and ending a 28-year trophy drought. It was Argentina's 15th title, equalling Uruguay's overall record of Copa América titles.
