Comparing scores in the 3km run test is difficult, particularly as the test is often run outdoors and the effects of the environmental conditions (wind, heat, cold) can greatly affect the results. Other factors that may affect the variability of results include the amount of warm-up, motivation of the participants and the amount of encouragement given. Below are some of the test scores that have been found, though not all of them have been confirmed as accurate.
Athletics
- The 3000m World record is 7:20.67 by Kenyan athlete Daniel Komen, achieved in Rieti on 1st Sept 1996. The Australian record is by Craig Mottram with 7:32.19 (retrieved from www.iaaf.org, Jan 2011).
AFL
- The best result in the 3km run test at the 2013 Draft Combine Draft was 9 minutes and 32 seconds by Josh Kelly, which was the second best time ever. He also had the fastest time in 2012 when he ran 9:48. See more 2012 and 2013 results.
- The best result in the 3km run test at the 2011 Draft Combine Draft was 9 minutes and 52 seconds by Brad Hill, who also set the draft camp record in the beep test. See more 2011 results.
- Kane Cornes holds the club record for the 3km run at Port Adelaide with 9:21 which he did in 2009. The club record for the Crows is by Nathan Van Berlo with 9:29 (from www.adelaidenow.com.au, January 06, 2009)
- The 3km run test was performed at the AFL Draft Camp each year. Some of the best results in previous years are: 9:37 by Tim Houlihan (2006) and 10:02 by Jarrad McVeigh (2002). See more draft camp results.

- The Indian rugby sevens team did a 3 km run in under 11 minutes, after some pre-season training focusing on fitness (IndiaTimes website, Dec 07).
