The 1959 Copa América was held in Ecuador, from 5–25 December. It was the 27th edition of the tournament.
In 1959 there were two South American Championships held in the same year, in Ecuador and Argentina early in the year.
The tournament saw the participation of five CONMEBOL nations—Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
The event was conducted in a round-robin format where each team played against the others once, and Uruguay emerged as the winner by finishing at the top of the standings, securing their tenth Copa América title.
