The 1949 Copa América was held in Brazil. It was the 21st edition of the tournament.
The tournament saw the participation of eight CONMEBOL nations—Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.
The event was held in a round-robin format where each team played against the others once, and Brazil emerged as the winner by finishing first in the standings, claiming their third Copa América title.
Trivia
- At the time the tournament was named the South American Championship. It was not called the Copa América until after 1967.
