BRW Top 50 Sports Earners for 2005
Here are the top earning Australian sports people for the year 2005, as published by the Business Review Weekly (BRW) magazine. Just the top 10 of their "Top 50 Sports Earners" list is shown. The list is compiled by BRW journalists and includes gross wages, prizemoney, sponsorships and endorsement fees and other income from sport-related business. Golfer Greg Norman has top spot for the 9th straight year (since the list began in 1997). There are 15 golfers on the top-50 list, making it Australia's most lucrative sport. Poker player Joe Hachem is a surprising fourth after he became an instant multi-millionaire when he won the world poker championship in Las Vegas. There are six cricketers in the top 50, including spin bowler Shane Warne (27) and captain Ricky Ponting (28). Tennis player Alicia Molik is the only woman on the list, coming in at 44th with earnings of $905,000.
