Below is some information about the fitness requirements and standards for the Israeli Army. This information is presented for discussion - for up to date information see official sources.
"Bar Or" IDF Fitness Test
The Bar Or, so named as it was invented by Professor Oded Bar Or, is a test of physical fitness to allow the commanders to evaluate the level of fitness of the soldiers. The test is usually conducted three times - at the beginning, middle, and end of training.
The Bar-Or test is carried out in field conditions and includes the following three exercises:
- Sit-ups - the maximum number (without stopping, no time limit).
- Push-ups - the maximum number (without stopping, no time limit). Previously a pull-up test was used instead of pushups.
- 2000 meter run
Infantry Assessment Test
All infantry brigade soldiers must pass a grueling fitness field test before they become combat troops. In this test soldiers must overcome several obstacles under pressure, and complete the course in under 10.5 minutes. The test must be completed wearing heavy boots and while carrying firearms as well as five ammunition clips and two water canteens.
The test begins with a 600 meter sprint, before having to climb a high wall. Other obstacles include handlebars, monkey bars, rope climbing, crawling under a metallic low structure, and an obstacle one must jump over. After completing the last part of the test, soldiers sprint 400 meters to cross the finish line.
