2018 PyeongChang, South Korea
The Athletes' Village was situated in Gangneung (home of curling, ice hockey, figure skating and speed skating during the Games).
Up to five million portions of meals were served at 13 competition venues - the Olympic Village, Press Center, Olympic Plaza, and other venues. The food service provided for 6,000 athletes and officials during the Olympics, and to about 1,700 athletes and officials during the Paralympics.
The food and beverage service for the athletes was open 24 hours a day, offering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night meals. Additionally, refreshment stations were around to provide snacks and drinks such as coffee at any time. At the athletes' lounge in each competition and training venue there was light food and beverages offered.
The dining halls at the village served a range of cuisines, such as Korean, Western and Asian cuisines, along with Halal and Kosher meals. A large proportion of the athletes would be considered 'western', and these were catered for by importing certain food such as pasta, and having a European cook in the cafeteria. The organizers also see this as an opportunity to promote its local food (K-food!) to people from other regions.
There was free water drinking fountains located at all venues, though at the venues on the mountain cluster an anti-freezing machine was needed to stop the water from freezing.
There was a different food menu every day, which was rotated on a weekly basis. Food information including the recipe, nutritional facts and allergy alerts was made available when providing food and beverages.
