Slovenia at the Winter Olympic Games
Slovenia, which was once part of Yugoslavia, first participated at the Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, France 1992 and has participated at the highly awaited event since. The nation competed at the Winter Games under Yugoslavia from 1924 to 1988.
Alpine skier Tina Maze captured 4 medals (2 gold and 2 silver) from 2010 to 2014 to become the nation’s most successful athlete at the Winter Games. Another alpine skier Alenka Dovžan won a bronze medal in 1994 at the age of just 18 to become the nation’s youngest Olympic medal winner.
Slovenia’s most productive campaign at the Winter Games was in 2014 where the nation won eight medals (2 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze).
Slovenia’s ice hockey team has already booked a slot for the event at the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics. With a population of just two million, the nation is one of the world’s best performing nations at the Winter Games in terms of medal-per-capita rankings.

- Slovenia's Tina Maze dominated the women alpine skiing in 2014 with two gold medals - she won the Giant Slalom and had an historic dead-heat for first in the Downhill event.
- In 2014, ski jumper Peter Prevc won silver in the normal hill and bronze in the largehill to become the first man competing for Slovenia to win two medals in any sport at a single Olympic Winter Games.
