The 1963 Copa América was held in Bolivia. It was the 28th edition of the tournament.
The 1963 Copa América, held in Bolivia, saw seven teams participating. These teams were:
- Argentina
- Bolivia (hosts)
- Brazil
- Colombia
- Ecuador
- Paraguay
- Peru
The tournament was conducted in a round-robin format, where each team played against every other team once. The team with the most points at the end of the matches was declared the winner. Bolivia emerged as the champion of the 1963 Copa América. They finished on top of the standings, securing their first and, as of now, only Copa América title.
Trivia
- At the time the tournament was named the South American Championship. It was not called the Copa América until after 1967.
- Carlos Alberto Raffo of Ecuador was the top scorer in the tournament with six goals.
- Chile was not invited due to the Lauca River conflict with Bolivia, Uruguay withdrew due to the designation of La Paz as a tournament site, and Venezuela did not enter.
- Brazil sent an under-strength team, primarily composed of players from the state of São Paulo. Consequently, several star players, including Pelé, did not participate.
- Many of the games were played at high altitudes, which assisted the Bolivian team which was generally more acclimatized to those conditions.
