1953 Copa América in Peru
The 1953 Copa América was held in Peru. It was the 22nd edition of the tournament.
The tournament saw the participation of seven CONMEBOL nations—Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.
The event followed a round-robin format where each team played against the others once, and Paraguay emerged as the winner by defeating Brazil 3-2 in a playoff match after both teams finished tied at the top of the standings, securing their first Copa América title.
Trivia
- At the time the tournament was named the South American Championship. It was not called the Copa América until after 1967.
