The 1942 Copa América was held in Montevideo, Uruguay. It was the 17th edition of the tournament.
The tournament saw the participation of seven CONMEBOL nations—Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.
The event followed a round-robin format where each team played against the others once, and Uruguay emerged as the winner by finishing first in the standings, securing their eighth Copa América title.
Trivia
- At the time the tournament was named the South American Championship. It was not called the Copa América until after 1967.
- It was the first time seven teams took part of the event. There could have been more, Bolivia, and Colombia withdrew from the tournament.
- Argentina beat Ecuador 12–0, the 12-goal difference of that match remains the widest ever in Copa América history.
