The 1916 Copa América was held in Argentina. It was the 1st edition of the tournament.
The participating countries were Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.
The tournament result was determined by a round-robin format. Uruguay won the tournament with two wins and a draw from their three matches.
Trivia
- At the time the tournament was named the South American Championship. It was not called the Copa América until after 1967.
- A match between Argentina and Uruguay played on 16 July had to be abandoned at 0–0 after only 5 minutes due to a riot among the spectators.
