A Inter-Empire sports championship was held as part of the 'Festival of Empire' in London to celebrate the coronation of King George V. While not being an 'official' Commonwealth Games, it is seen as the forerunner to the official games that would start in 1930.
Teams from Australasia (a combined team from Australia and New Zealand), Canada, South Africa and the United Kingdom participated.
A trophy in the form of a silver cup, 2ft 6in high and weighing 340oz, the gift of Lord Lonsdale, was presented to the winning country, which was Canada.

- Five athletics events (100 yards, 220 yards, 880 yards, 1 mile and 120 yards hurdles)
- Two swimming events (100 yards and 1 mile)
