The Ohio Stadium, located at Columbus, Ohio, is an American Football stadium that belongs to The Ohio State University. It is more popularly known by its nickname "The Horseshoe" because of its shape, and it is very common to hear the stadium being referred by its nickname in the media and by the fans. With an official capacity of 102,780, it is the seventh largest stadium in the world and the third largest in the United States.
The stadium was opened in 1922 with a initial seating capacity of 66,210, and future modifications increased its capacity to over 100,000 by 2001 and later to its current capacity in 2014.
The stadium is primarily used for playing college football games. The Ohio State University Buckeyes, one of the most popular college football teams in all of the United States, host all their home games in this stadium. Buckeyes home games at The Horseshoe very commonly record an attendance of over 100,000. There are several occasions where the attendance has far exceeded the official capacity. The highest attendance at the stadium was recorded at 110,045 in 2016 for a game against Michigan.
The stadium is also currently used by The Ohio State University Marching Band which has earned its unofficial title as The Best Damn Band in the Land.
In the past, the stadium was used for athletic meets and soccer games. Though not used for athletics any more, a few exhibition soccer matches still take place in the stadium.
