The stadium was opened in August 2017, with a capacity of 71,000 (expandable to 75,000), though 78,347 attended the 2019 Peach Bowl. It is the home ground for the Atlanta Falcons (NFL) and the Atlanta United FC (MLS). The stadium is well known for its unique retractable roof system.
The Mercedes-Benz Stadium is one of the eleven US stadiums which will be used for the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
