The aim of the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia is to develop and prepare elite Australian athletes for their participation at the Olympic Winter Games and other major world winter sports events. The Olympic Winter Institute was formed by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) after the Nagano Winter Olympics in 1998. The AOC continues to provide over 50% of the total funds for the operation. Initially the institute was purely administrative. In 2010, the OWI moved into the Ice House, Docklands, Melbourne, a building which includes a medical clinic, gymnasium, and dance and multipurpose facilities to assist figure skating and speed skating dry land training. For more information see the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia website.
