The Turin Games, 2006
The 20th Winter Games were held in Turino, Italy, from 10-26 February 2006. 2500 athletes from 85 countries contested the Games. Turin beat other possible locations in the bid for these Olympics such as Sion in Switzerland and Klagenfurt in Austria.
About Turin
Turin (known in Italy as Torino) is Italy's 4th largest city, and the largest city to ever host the Winter Games. Turin developed as a city due to its automobile production - it is the home of the FIAT and Lancia companies. It is situated at the base of the Alps, in the upper reaches of the Po Valley.
