Venezuela at the Winter Olympics
Venezuela made its maiden appearance at the Winter Olympic Games in 1998 in Nagano, Japan and has participated in the quadrennial event since then except for in 2010 and 2018. The South American country has sent seven athletes to the Winter Games from 1998 to 2014.
At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Werner Hoeger competed in the luge alongside his son Christopher, becoming the only father and son to ever compete in the same event in the Olympic Winter Games. In 2006 Werner Hoeger was the only competitor from Venezuela, and at 52 years of age was the oldest competitor of all nations at these games.
At the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games there was also just one competitor from Venezuela. The nation fielded Antonio Jose Pardo Andretta in the men’s giant slalom event in alpine skiing, but he did not finish the race.
The nation has won at least 15 medals at the Summer Games but unfortunately the nation is still seeking its first medal at the Winter Games.
