Lithuania at the Winter Olympics
Lithuania first sent athletes to the Winter Olympic Games in St. Moritz, Switzerland in 1928. From 1932 to 1988 the nation competed as part of the Soviet Union. Two Lithuanians won medals in the winter Olympics while representing the Soviet Union during that time, but none has done it under the Lithuanian national flag. The nation regained its independence in 1990, and Lithuania has appeared in every Winter Games since 1992.
The former Soviet republic saw action at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia fielding nine competitors in five sports. The number of athletes that competed in Sochi is the country’s most. There were five competitors from Lithuania at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
The nation is still chasing its dream of capturing the elusive medal at the Winter Games.
