Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Winter Olympics
Bosnia and Herzegovina finally saw action as a sovereign state at the Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway in 1994 and never missed joining the relatively tough event ever since. The nation competed under Yugoslavia at the Olympics from 1920 up to 1992.
Bosnia and Herzegovina participated at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and fielded a team consisting of five athletes that saw action in alpine skiing, biathlon and cross-country skiing. During the opening ceremony the Bosnia and Herzegovina athletes were seen clad in clothes that paid tribute to the thirtieth anniversary of the 1984 Winter Olympic Games that was staged in Sarajevo.
Controversy broke out with the nation’s selection of alpine racer Žana Novaković as flagbearer in favor of Igor Laikert, who registered better results. There are speculations that Laikert had been bypassed because he belongs to the Muslim-Croat community.
Bosnia and Herzegovina hasn’t won any medals.
