The Sound of Victory: Paris 2024’s Bell-Ringing Tradition

At the Paris 2024 Olympics, a unique tradition was introduced: gold medal-winning athletes had the honor of ringing a special bell at the Stade de France.

This bell, engraved with the "Paris 2024" emblem, was crafted in Normandy at the Fonderie Cornille Havard.

This tradition of ringing the golden bell provided athletes with a memorable way to celebrate their victories, and connect with the rich history of Paris. The bell remained at the main stadium for the duration of the Games. For the rugby 7s games, after each game the winning team had the honor of ringing the bell. For the track and field events held later at the stadium, just the gold medal winners rang the bell.

Its significance extends beyond the Games; after the Olympics, the bell was relocated to the Notre Dame Cathedral as part of its restoration following the 2019 fire. Installed above the altar, it now rings during Mass, symbolizing a fusion of athletic achievement and cultural heritage.

The integration of the Olympic bell into Notre Dame serves as a lasting legacy of the Paris 2024 Games, intertwining the spirit of international competition with the enduring resilience of a historic landmark.
