Athens, 1906 (Intercalated Games)
The first, last, and only Intercalated Games were held in Athens in 1906. The Greeks planned to hold these interim Games between Olympics every four years, but it did not eventuate. This event were at the time considered to be Olympic Games and were referred to as the "Second International Olympic Games in Athens" by the International Olympic Committee. While medals were distributed to the participants during these games, the medals are not officially recognized by the IOC today.

- The Olympic Sports for the 1906 Summer Olympics were Track & Field, Cycling, Diving, Fencing, Gymnastics, Rowing, Shooting, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, Tug Of War, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
- The athletics program included an event the Ancient Pentathlon, which replicated the events of the ancient greek pentathlon. This event has not been held at any other Olympics.
- While these Games bolstered the Olympics' flagging reputation, the medals won are considered unofficial by the IOC.
- At these Games, the United States had an official U.S. team for the first time, plus they wore official team uniforms.
- The Games were held at the same stadium as the Olympic Games in 1896, the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens.
