Mijaín López (Greco-Roman Wrestling)
Mijaín López is a renowned Cuban wrestler, celebrated for his dominance in Greco-Roman wrestling. Born on August 20, 1982, he is known for his incredible strength, technique, and consistency. López has become a symbol of wrestling excellence and a national hero in Cuba, inspiring future generations of wrestlers.
López has made history with his exceptional achievements, including winning five Olympic gold medals in the super heavyweight category (120 kg) at the 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, 2016 Rio de Janeiro, 2020 Tokyo Games and he 2024 Paris Olympics.
He is the first Olympian to win a gold medal in the same event five straight times. This record breaks the tie for four successive individual Olympic golds he shared with Carl Lewis (athletics/long jump), Michael Phelps (swimming/200m medley), Katie Ledecky (swimming/800m freestyle), Al Oerter (athletics/discus), Paul Elvstrom (sailing) and Kaori Icho (wrestling).
