The 1976 Paralympics were held in Toronto, Canada. The event was branded as Torontolympiad – 1976 Olympiad for the Physically Disabled. It was the first event to use the title 'Olympiad for the Physically Disabled.
32 countries and 1657 athletes participated.
At these Games, blind and amputee athletes were able to compete for the first time. Prior to this, only wheelchair athletes competed.
Sitting volleyball was a demonstation sport in 1976.
