The first five Grand National's included one jump that was a stone wall.
The first grey horse to win the Grand National is 'The Lamb' (1868 and 1871)
The 1900 winning horse was Ambush II, owned by HRH Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VII.
In 1928 Tipperary Tim, a 100-1 outsider, was the first of only two horses to finish the race.
In 1923, Sergeant Murphy became the first US bred horse to win the race.
In 1950 Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, had her first runner in the race in Monaveen, who finished fifth.
The favorite for the 1968 race, Different Class, was owned by actor Gregory Peck.
Charlotte Brew became the first female jockey to enter the race in 1977.
Red Rum won the Grand National at Aintree, Liverpool, U.K. for an unprecedented three times in 1973, 1974 and 1977.
The 2012 race the closest ever finish to a Grand National, with Neptune Collonges beating Sunnyhillboy in a photo finish.
The 2020 Grand National was canceled due to the coronovirus pandemic.
