Games of the Commonwealth of the Independent States (CIS)

The Games of the Commonwealth of the Independent States (CIS) is a multi-sport event for post-Soviet republics, with the aim to strengthen the traditionally friendly ties between the people of the countries involved.

CIS 2021

The inaugural event was scheduled to be held in 2020 in Kazan, a city in southwest Russia, but was postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The first event hosted about 2,000 mostly junior athletes, from nine ex-soviet republics which form the Commonwealth of the Independent States: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. Turkmenistan was originally one of the participating nations but at the last minute refused to take part.

There were 15 sports on the program: Badminton, 3x3 basketball, Boxing, Belt wrestling, Dancesport, Futsal, Judo, Karate, Kurash, Muay Thai, Gymnastics, Sambo, Shooting, Table tennis, Wrestling.

CIS 2023

The second edition of the CIS Games took place in Belarus in 2023. Athletes from Russia and eight other member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States competed in the games, with athletes from 13 other nations invited.
