The 2018 Asian Games was the 18th event held. Hanoi in northern Vietnam withdrew as hosts for the 2019 Asian Games, which was then awarded to Jakarta in Indonesia, and then it was brought forward one year to 2018, to be held from August 18 till September 2, 2018.
For the first time, the Asian Games was co-hosted in two cities; the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, and Palembang, the capital of South Sumatra province. Jakarta has hosted the Games once before, in 1962.

Mascots: The mascots for the 2018 Asian Games were the bird of paradise Bhin Bhin, single-horned rhinoceros Kaka and Bawean deer Atung.
