2024 T20 World Cup
The 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup was co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies, from 4th to 30th June. It was the ninth time the tournament has been held. Two-thirds of the matches were played in countries of the West Indies, the rest in the USA.
It was the first time that the United States hosted a cricket World Cup, an obvious move by the IOC to extend its reach beyond its traditional cricket playing nations.
Seven venues in the Caribbean hosted matches: Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad & Tobago, along with three venues in the USA – Dallas, Florida and New York.
England wee the defending champions, having won in 2022.
India and South Africa were both unbeaten going into the final. India won the final by 7 runs, defeating South Africa who made 169/8. Virat Kohli's 76 runs earned him the Player of the Match award, in his last T20 International.
The next T20 World Cup will be in India and Sri Lanka in 2026.
Participating Countries
The competition expanded to 20 teams, up from 16. The teams were divided into four groups (5 team per group), with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super Eights. The teams in the Super Eights were divided into two groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals.
- The USA and the West Indies gained automatic entry as host nations.
- The top eight teams from the 2022 tournament also qualified: Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
- Next two highest-ranked nations: Afghanistan, Bangladesh
- Europe Qualifier: Ireland, Scotland
- East Asia/Pacific Qualifiers: Papua New Guinea
- Americas Qualifier: Canada
- Asia Qualifiers: Nepal, Oman
- Africa Qualifiers: Namibia, Uganda
Canada, Uganda, and the USA made their tournament debut.
Super 8s
The top two teams from each group in the Group Stage advanced to the Super 8s. These 8 teams were then placed in two groups, the top two from each moving into the semi-finals.

- The 2024 event in the USA and West Indies included two players who had participated in all editions on the T20 World Cup since the first in 2007. They were Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh) and Rohit Sharma (India).
